Ilford Delta 100 in a review

As I have photographed already many years, there are still films which I have never used, even when they have been on the market almost forever. One of these is Ilford Delta 100 which belongs to the category of slow black and white films.

During this spring I bought a bigger bunch of films as I started to run out of my stock. I bought more slower films including this 10 roll pack of Delta 100. I really didn't have any doubts of buying this much film I have never used before.

And to let you know, this is not any kind of scientific test, but only my experiences on this film after shooting couple of rolls. I used Rodinal as my developer and I have no idea is it really the best developer for this film, but I use it mainly because it's very easy to use. Results could be different if used another developer, but in this case I don't know the difference.

As I expected the results are quite nice when it comes to tonality, contrast and over all look. I think this film suits very well to bright and clear scenes like some of these example photos represent. These are not very fresh photos as the snow piles suggest. Even though the results are good, I still like more Ilford's FP4. It's slightly faster and it looks a bit grainier when developed with Rodinal. I think the developer plays a crucial role in this. I could also adjust more contrast when I edit photos. It propably brings a bit more attitude to my photos.

And the last one is a bonus photo taken with my medium format camera. It really doesn't matter what camera or film format you use, as it is the same film inside your camera. The weather was a bit cloudy but still realitively bright. Maybe it doesn't look best on my laptop screen, but is alright. The tree in the middle is Pehr Kalm's oak on the banks of Aura river.

As a conclusion I would say that Ilford Delta 100 is over all a very good film and propably it's best for bright scenes.
