Kuvan takana: Yllättävä kaksoisvalotus

Ajattelin aloittaa pienen sarjan, jossa kerron hieman taustaa ja tarinoita siitä kuinka jokin valokuva on syntynyt. Useimmilla kuvilla ei ehkä ole erityistä tarinaa tai muuta muistettavaa kiinnekohtaa. Ne ovat vain ohikiitäviä hetkiä. Tässä sarjassa ajattelin esitellä joitakin kuvia, joiden taustalla kuitenkin on jokin tarina tai muu mielenkiintoinen asia.

Aloitan sarjan kuvasta, jonka lopputulos oli toisenlainen kuin alunperin ajattelin.

Viime keväänä kamerani kaatui tapaturmaisesti jalustalla suoraan asfaltille ja sai ikävän kolauksen. Rytäkässä hajosi linssisuodin ja objektiivin etuosa sai vaurioita. Lisäksi etsin löystyi ja filmiperän kiinnitykset halkesivat.

Tämä kuva on otettu muutama päivä onnettomuuden jälkeen kun testasin kameraani ja kuvasin samalla sisällä olleen keskeneräisen filmin loppuun. Filmiperän kiinnitykset olivat vaurioituneet niin, ettei se pysynyt enää kunnolla kiinni kameran rungossa. Kuvanottohetkellä filmiperä oli mitä ilmeisimmin huonosti kiinni kameran rungossa sillä filmi ei ollut siirtynyt kuvanoton jälkeen. Lopputuloksena kaksi erillistä kuvaa valottuivat päällekkäin samalle ruudulle.

Kuva on mielestäni yllättävän onnistunut. Hankin myöhemmin uuden filmiperän ja filmin siirrossa ei luonnollisestikaan ole enää ongelmia. Voin tietysti edelleen ottaa päällekkäisvalotuksia, mutta samanlaista yllätysmomenttia ei enää ole.

Behind the picture: An unexpected double exposure

I will start a new series where I am going to tell a story behind some of my pictures. Most of my photographs don't have any particular story behind them. They are just frozen moments in time. But in this series I will introduce some photographs which have something interesting behind them.

I'll start this with a picture that didn't turn out as I expected.

Last spring I had an accident and my camera fell to ground on a tripod. The filter was smashed and the front part of the lens was damaged. The viewfinder was loosen and the film back was also damaged.

I took this picture couple of days after the accident to test my camera and to shoot the last frames of the film inside. The film back was damaged and it didn't mount properly to the camera body anymore. At the moment when I took the picture of a train the film back wasn't properly attached to the camera body because camera didn't wind the film. The result was two separate photographs exposed on the same frame.

The photo turned out quite well and I like it. Later I bought a new film back and I don't have this problem anymore. I can still take multiple exposures but the same kind of moment of surprise is missing.
